Ah, the Pointer Sisters. One of the few great things to come out of the Disco Era, well that and plunging necklines for men with white shoes and belts.
When you go grocery shopping do you take into consideration the package art on something before you buy it? I do. It's why I have cans of sardines in tomatoes, pickled smoked oysters and Asian products the contents of which I have no clue. I love the art on the outside. And if I can re-use the receptacle, all the better. I love these bright little salsa cans. I use them unadorned for pencil holders and other assorted junk but I've been wanting to jazz one up. Le Freak, c'est chic!!!
Filled with brightly colored sweets, this would make a fun party favor. The handle is a recycled headband that I bent to my wishes and well, the bird you've been introduced to already. And for fouf, I just gathered a crepe paper streamer as tightly as I could and with a glue gun attached it to the rim of the salsa can. I need some hot stuff baby this evening
A sprinkle of colorful little posies and some glitter pizazz. Really, what's a project without glitter, right? 'Causethat's the way, uh-huh, uh-huh I like it, uh-huh uh-huh,
And that was it. Less than an hour after starting - a swanky little can.
Put on your boogie shoes and do the hustle down the grocery aisles. Ethnic stores are a wealth of unique packaging. We're lucky enough to have Asian, Hispanic, Indian and Middle Eastern markets in very close proximity but even Safeway has cans of anchovies and international products with great containers. It's probably good if you like the food within but not a requirement.
I might adorn the back patio with these for summer dinners alfresco. Maybe fashion a string of them with lights to wind around the arbor. A little wine, some tunes and it's a party.
See that girl, watch that scene, diggin' the dancing Queen
Come on, you saw that coming di'n't cha?
LOVE this idea! You are so clever. I have noticed some of the interesting packaging but just never thought about buying the products just for that reason. Now I think I might give it a go. Thanks!!

As always, tres' cute my friend. :) My grocery store IS an ethnic store. I have to get in my car and drive to the "real" market if I want anything that isn;t full on fat or very American, like pork n' beans. ;)
I'm curious about those little Spanish cut out cards on this can and on my R that you sent. So cute! Where, pray tell, are they from? Oh and did you hand gather that streamer? I need to try that.

Yes, a string of those would go a long way towards decorating for a patio party.
The can's great but Puh-leeeeez don't make me listen to that music. I mostly missed the disco ere... I was to old for it maybe or could it be once in my life I was too sensible?

These are adorable!! And they would be great to decorate the patio...maybe to light up the hydrangeas after dark. I love cans like this too. Most things in the regular grocery stores are paper covered cans, so I need to visit the speciality markets more.

I love your musical posts! And I love these cans!! My very sad confession - I love to go to the grocery store in bigger cities to find fun stuff like this that we just don't get in my neck of the woods!

Hmmm...yellow & orange container, huh? ;) You're so gonna win.
I must admit, while I love beautiful packaging, we're on a tight budget so I buy for cheap. But I do notice trends from crafting coming over into product design (or vice versa?)

I have just got into that, and DH thinks I am crazy. I made him buy a special kind of beer, so I could have the bottle. Very Vintage looking. I love the colors you used! They just say Summer!

Aw, the Pointer Sistas, "We're drivin' in your car, turn on the radio, you're pullin' me close, I just say no-ooooh" cause you got white shoes on . . . .oh what memories! I kinda loved the short-lived disco period. Like in my junior year in high school! We got down, we did the Latin hustle, oh yea, fo sho. hehe. V, love that can can! That yellow is amazing!

Grocery shopping will never be the same for me! I can hear my husband now. "When did we start eating this?" Thanks for the inspiration! They are so cute. I love the little flowers sprinkled in the crepe paper.
